Rue & Lynette’s Surprise Proposal at Lovers’ Walk | A Moment They’ll Never Forget

A Surprise Proposal I'll Never Forget | Rue & Lynette

Some proposal stories stay with you long after the camera stops recording.

Rue and Lynette’s surprise lesbian proposal at Lovers’ Walk, Moora Park in Shorncliffe, Brisbane was one of those unforgettable moments filled with secret planning, happy tears, laughter and a whole lot of love.

From my very first phone call with Rue, I knew this was going to be something special. We instantly clicked, and before long we were texting, calling, changing locations, creating backup plans, checking weather forecasts and probably overthinking every tiny detail together.

Planning a surprise proposal is stressful enough, but planning one where absolutely nothing can be given away? That's next level. Thankfully, with the help of their amazing friends Lillee and her partner, we managed to pull it off without Lynette suspecting a thing.

Well... apparently.

Rue & her friend Lillee convinced Lynette they were heading to a surprise Pride Month event, and from the car park both Rue & Lynette where blindfolded before being carefully walked down the path along Lovers' Walk at Moora Park in Shorncliffe. When Lynette was convinced Rie was right beside her also in for some big surprise she took off her blind fold to run ahead & wait under the most incredible fallen tree I'd ever seen, trying to look calm... while very much not looking calm. I don't think either of us had a normal heart rate by that point.

The second the blindfold came off, Lynette looked up, spotted Rue and instantly blurted out,

"I knew it!"

Without missing a beat, Rue fired straight back,

"No you didn't!"

Honestly... one of my favourite moments of the whole day.

As they both laughed, the nerves disappeared for a second, and then it all became very, very real.

Watching Rue ask her best friend to spend forever together was one of those moments that reminds me exactly why I love what I do.

There were tears.

There were shaky hands.

There were huge smiles.

And there were those little looks they gave each other that said far more than words ever could.

Then, just when everyone had settled down a little, Lynette suddenly noticed my audio gear.

"Oh my God... is that a mic?"

Those are always my favourite moments. Not the perfectly posed ones, but the ones nobody could script.

After soaking it all in beneath the trees & really taking in the moment, we heading down to the beach for sunset.

And that's when these two completely let their personalities loose.

Forget serious, moody engagement photos.

We recreated the most gloriously Awkward Macy's photoshoot portrait poses Rue loved.

Both of them lying on the ground with their hands tucked under their chins like they were posing for a 90s family calendar & honestly, it suited them perfectly.

We then headed down to the beach just in time for sunset.  The light was absolutely beautiful, but honestly, these two made my job so easy. They just held hands, wandered along the shoreline, laughed together and completely forgot the cameras were there. Those are always my favourite moments to capture because nothing is forced. It’s just real. Watching them walk hand in hand as the sun disappeared over the water was the perfect way to end such an incredible afternoon. After months of secret planning, backup plans and keeping one very big surprise under wraps, seeing them simply enjoy the moment together was pretty special.

Somewhere between all the planning, the late-night chats, the location changes, backup plans, and all the excitement leading up to this moment, something unexpected happened... Rue and I became genuine friends. What started as planning a surprise proposal turned into so many conversations, laughs, and getting to know each other beyond just the day itself.

Which means, unfortunately for both Rue and Lynette... You're both stuck with me now. Sorry girls, I don’t make the rules. Some friendships just find you along the way, and I’m pretty sure this is one of those ones that’s here to stay. 🤍

Thank you both for trusting me with one of the biggest moments you'll ever share together. It was such an honour to be part of it, and I honestly couldn't be happier for you both.

Congratulations on your engagement. ❤️🏳️‍🌈💍
