Let’s be honest—when you’re planning your dream wedding, rain is probably not on your vision board. But here’s the truth: some of the most unforgettable, joy-filled weddings I’ve ever captured were on rainy days! At J’adore Weddings, we believe a little drizzle (or even a downpour) can add a sprinkle of magic to your story and your photos.
Step 1: Always Have a Plan B (and Love It!)
If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony or reception, chat with your venue or planner early about a wet weather backup. Some of my favourite Gold Coast, Brisbane and surrounding venues have gorgeous indoor options or have permanent marquee’s on site & others can whip up a stunning clear marquee in a flash. And trust me, with a bit of creative lighting, candles, and lush florals, your Plan B can be just as breathtaking as Plan A.
Step 2: Stock Up on Clear Umbrellas
Clear umbrellas are a must-have for rainy day weddings! Not only do they let in loads of natural light (hello, glowy skin), but they also look super cute in photos and keep everyone dry. Make sure you have enough for your bridal party—and don’t stress, I always bring a few extras just in case.
Step 3: Pack a Change of Shoes (or Fun Gumboots!)
Worried about soggy shoes? Bring a backup pair for after your portraits, or embrace the weather with some quirky gumboots for your location shoot. Pro tip: a towel and a few helpers go a long way in keeping dresses and suits looking fresh.
Step 4: Make Time for Night-Time Photo Magic
Rain + night + creative lighting = absolute photo gold. If the weather’s wild, let’s sneak out during your reception for some dramatic, romantic shots. Some of my favourite images ever have been captured in the rain after dark!
Step 5: Embrace the Adventure
Remember, your wedding day is about celebrating your love with your favourite people. Rain is just a part of the story—and some say it’s good luck! If you’re willing to have a little fun and trust your photographer & Videographer (that’s me!), we’ll create incredible, emotion-filled images you’ll treasure forever.
